HOW PORT NAVIGATOR WORKS
Last updated: 14 February 2026
Port Navigator is an AI-powered assistant that answers questions about cruise port destinations. It's designed to help you plan port days with practical information, tips, and local knowledge. From where to find the best beaches to how to get from the terminal into town.
It's completely free to use. No subscription, no hidden fees, no account required.
Where Do the Answers Come From?
Port Navigator uses a tiered system to find the best answer for your question. Here's how it works, in plain English:
1. Our Own Port Guides
The first place Port Navigator looks is our own library of port guides, researched and written by the Limitless Cruises team. We currently have detailed guides for over 120 cruise ports covering transport, beaches, food, sightseeing, accessibility, and more. This is the most reliable source.
2. Pre-Researched Q&A Library
For each port, we've pre-answered approximately 200 of the most common questions cruise passengers ask, things like "How far is the beach from the port?" or "Is tap water safe to drink?". These answers have been reviewed for quality and accuracy. If your question matches one of these, you'll get a fast, reliable answer.
3. AI-Generated Responses
When our existing content doesn't cover your specific question, AI (Anthropic Claude) generates an answer using our port knowledge base as context. The AI is instructed to be helpful, practical, and honest about what it doesn't know. However, AI can and does make mistakes. It's a language model, not a travel expert.
4. Live Web Research
For time-sensitive questions (current prices, today's opening hours, upcoming events), Port Navigator can search the web in real time using Perplexity AI. This helps with questions where our stored information might be out of date.
What This Means for You
- Most answers come from our own researched content, not raw AI generation. The AI is a fallback, not the primary source.
- AI can make mistakes. Responses may sound confident but be wrong. This is a known characteristic of AI language models. Always verify important details, especially transport times, prices, and opening hours.
- Information can become outdated. Ports change. Restaurants close. Bus routes get rerouted. We update our guides regularly, but we can't guarantee everything is current.
- Your feedback genuinely helps. When you tap the thumbs up or thumbs down button, it helps us identify which answers are good and which need fixing. We review this feedback regularly.
What Port Navigator is NOT
- Not a booking service. We can't book excursions, transfers, or restaurants for you through the chat.
- Not a substitute for official travel advice. For visa requirements, safety warnings, and health advisories, always check the FCDO travel advice.
- Not a navigation tool. Don't rely on it for turn-by-turn directions. Use a proper maps app.
- Not medical, legal, or financial advice. For medical emergencies, call local emergency services.
- Not guaranteed to be correct. It's a helpful starting point, not the final word.
Your Privacy
Your questions are scrubbed of personal information before they reach any AI provider. We don't sell your data. Chat messages are automatically deleted after 90 days. You can opt out of analytics at any time using the toggle in the chat menu.
Full details are in our Port Navigator Privacy Policy.
